HAVEN: an art auction to benefit the Native Women’s Shelter of Montréal

April 21st, 2011

For our 3rd annual art auction, the Ste-Emilie Skillshare would like to recognize the front-line work of the Native Women Shelter of Montréal. Every hour of every day, they support women and families that must constantly deal with the ramifications of an on-going colonization. Until recently, the Shelter offered cultural healing through the Aboriginal Healing Foundation. The 2010 federal budget, however, cancelled the funding to the Aboriginal Healing Foundation, closing this project and over one-hundred others from coast to coast.

The auction will take place Friday, May 6th.

Net proceeds from the auction go directly to the Shelter. To submit a piece of art or a proposal or for more information, please contact us.

Engrenage Noir / LEVIER’s implication in the Montreal Urban Aboriginal Community Strategy NETWORK

June 14th, 2010

Since 2008, several Aboriginal organizations in the Greater Montreal region, have worked together to develop the Montreal Urban Aboriginal Community Strategy NETWORK. The vision of this NETWORK is to improve the quality of life of Aboriginal people who live in the greater Montreal area. To accomplish this, the NETWORK aims to support the organizations working with the local Aboriginal population and to strengthen their activities in order to provide tangible and long lasting improvements. In addition to a Steering Committee, the NETWORK is comprised of six working committees, which collaborate in the process of building the NETWORK: Health; Social Services; Communications; Education, Training and Employability; Youth and ART · CULTURE.

As a founding member, Engrenage Noir / LEVIER has a special seat within the ART · CULTURE Committee. Because the stakes relative to the Aboriginal population of Montreal are great and because of the necessity to actively work towards equity, LEVIER is committed to funding the position of the ART · CULTURE coordinator and sharing the LEVIER working environment with Amélie Girard (coordinator).
